Skate Comp + Awards + Concert featuring:
Les Baliens and The Shivas in Tofino
Spend the day at the skate park, stay for the awards. Join us at the Tofino Community Hall for a concert featuring LES BALIENS and THE SHIVAS!
SKATE SCHEDULE:
10 AM - 6 PM, Sunday, April 28th, 2024 - Skate Jam at Tuff City Skatepark
*** HELMETS MANDATORY THIS YEAR*** some extras will be provided, but please bring your own.
***IF YOU ARE REGISTERED FOR TRIFECTA AND DON'T SHOW UP FOR YOU SKATE HEAT, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DENIED A SPOT IN THE EVENT THE FOLLOWING YEAR. Too many people have bailed out of the skateboarding last year while many others who couldn't get a spot would have loved to skate. Please don’t be that person; just skate for fun, no matter the level! It’s all love.
10 AM - 12 PM: PRACTICE FOR ALL - SEPARATED IN CATEGORIES:
Look for your skate heats for times:
11:00 - 11:10 pm = 16 and Under practice (10 minutes long)
11:10 - 11:20 pm = Women’s and non-binary Practice (10 minutes long)
11:20 – 11:30 pm = Men’s Practice and non-binary Practice (10 minutes long)
11:30 - 11:40 pm = 16 and Under practice (10 minutes long)
11:40 - 11:50 pm = Women’s and non-binary Practice (10 minutes long)
11:50 – 12:00 pm = Men’s Practice and non-binary Practice (10 minutes long)
Noon – 3 PM: CONTEST FOR ALL - SEPARATED IN CATEGORIES
FIve to six people per heats, HEATS are five-minutes long
Each skater only gets ONE HEAT EACH! No finals!
12:00 - 12:30 pm = 16 and Under CONTEST
12:30 - 1:30 pm = Women’s heats ( 7-8 heats, 37 women)
1:30 – 1:45 pm = Men’s only practice
1:45 – 3:00 pm = Men’s heats (14-15 heats, 72 men)
3:00 - 3:15 pm = Expression Session 10 minutes 10 people max

7:30 PM- 12 PM, Sunday, April 28th, 2024 - Concert night featuring LES BALIENS and THE SHIVAS!
7:30 PM = Doors Open, Food Truck available until 10:00 PM, Drinks!
9:00 - 9:45 PM = LES BALIENS (45 minutes)
9:45 - 10:00 PM = Intermission
10:00 -10:45 PM = First set by THE SHIVAS (45 minutes)
10:45 -11:00 PM = Intermission
11:00 - 11:45 PM = Second set by THE SHIVAS (45 minutes)
12:00 AM = Doors Close.
Les Baliens is comprised of Tanya Richards on vocals, Shawn Lennon on guitar, Joel Gray on bass, and Johnny Stewart on drums. Originally formed in Tofino in 2019, Les Baliens draws inspiration from their shared passion for music, surfing, and the coastal lifestyle, which forms the foundation of their camaraderie and charming essence.
Their sound is characterized by dynamic, gritty garage rock renditions of originals and obscure 60’s and 70’s American and French love tunes by artists such as The Kinks, Lead Belly, Garnet Mimms, and Jacques Dutronc, generating an infectious, dance-inducing party vibe.
The name Les Baliens originates from a mysterious tale - a love story involving aliens, space, and their French singer.
The Shivas, a rock & roll band based in Portland, Oregon, commenced their journey in 2006. Originating as best friends in high school, they've taken their lively dance parties to nearly all 50 states of the United States and explored over 25 countries worldwide. Throughout their career, they've unveiled seven original, full-length albums, alongside numerous EPs and singles released across various labels such as Tender Loving Empire, Suicide Squeeze, and K Records.
Amidst their bustling schedule, The Shivas announced 'Alive In The World,' a live album capturing their 2022 European tour of the same title. Recorded each night throughout an almost two-month span, standout performances were cherry-picked from over 50 hours of live recordings, resulting in a tracklist comprising 13 tracks from 10 distinct cities. Released on October 20, 2023, via Tender Loving Empire Records, 'Alive In The World' encapsulates the energy and fervor of their captivating live performances.
TIKI SHUTTLE BUS SCHEDULE:
SUNDAY, 28TH, 2024 (ONE- NIGHT ONLY)
The TIKI SHUTTLE BUS will arrive at 6:15 and depart from Ucluelet at 6:30 PM, with pick-up at Ucluelet CO-OP.
There will be a stop at the Tofino Info Centre at 7:10 PM, arriving at Tofino Community Hall at 7:20 PM.
Returning to Ucluelet: the bus will depart from the Tofino Community Hall at 11:45 PM, with a stop at the Tofino Info Centre and arrival in Ucluelet at 12:30 AM.
